Alain Lestié

 A mots couverts
Exhibition from 18 January to 7 February 2008
Alain Lestié
Alain Lestié was born at Hossegor in 1944. He lives and works in Cannes. In the 60’s, Alain Lestié could be considered as a “critic figuration’s painter”, wondering about the future of painting which, for many at the epoch, seemed destined to disappear. The exposition which he offers us, called “A mots couverts”, testify the way gone through by this atypical artist who expressed him with an extraordinary dexterity by means of the only pencil Nero. This technique means austerity which contrasts with the infinite variation of shades from black to the white introduce in his drawings. Fire exit, after night, the black hours, break, last skylines… here are some titles of displayed writings. Just after the very first glance which can, by reflexes, make think in photography. Dimensions, drawings formats (170 X 50 inches), the infinite palette of grey nuances and the outline’s delicacy plunge the spectator in a puissant atmosphere, a particular world loaded of artist’s interrogation. Worrying wire nettings, impressive obscure light, from black to grey rainbow, angles and constructed triangles, sewn up tears… Drawning’s variety is infinite, to the liking of the artist’s dreams who are not without reminding, in much more sophisticated, some virtual worlds which haunt our screens. Alain Lestié doesn’t content itself with drawing. Is art and culture’s writings extend his drawings with a look’s assiduity and a distance with culturo-media’s agitation by means of a without concession sincerity. A substrate writing of this exposition, covered by his bright blows of pencil’s silvered cinder. Strong images which the substance print in our memories like on a ‘silver film’. A noble painter…
