« The Michaël More of photography »’s first exposition in Europe

With for only finery his rifle M16, John Douglas seems this figures serie’s single subject. A real “one man army” while multiplying, armed until teeth. A succession of “table” who confront power to a ridiculous arm’s impotence. A questioning on polarity every time most large in US politic and in social aptitudes.

Homeland Security (1) is a sardonic critic of the actual foreign military preventive American politic. Go it alone is a delirious portrait of soldier citizen defending the stereotypes of his native habitat : caravan, lawn, coffin covered with flag, maritime access… and, what freezes more blood, the fact of being stoically sitted in front of the TV, in a darkness stopped by its cyclopean light intermittent.

Co founder in 1967 of the Newsreel collective really politically engaged, John Douglas has realised in the 60’s, 70’s with his old comrade Robert Kramer, People’s war in North Viet-Nam and Milestones.

(1) (1)After the September 11, 2001’s attacks, the president George W.Bush, in 2002, the DHS, “Department of Homeland Security” belonging to the federal administration. Gathering 22 agencies coordinated at the White House, he has for aim to ensure a greater safety of the country as well against the terrorist attacks as the natural disasters ( such as Katarina in the New-Orléan…). “USA Patriot Act”’s law allows agents against-espionage to supervise the actions of any American citizen ( payments by CB, medical data, Internet … ) to have the territory’s total control. “Homeland Security” is today the generic term suitable for United States, commonly employed by the politicians , the media and the citizens. He evocate the idea of a country in constant alarm, plunged in a climate of fear.
