The Galerie Depardieu opened on July 8, 2004, at 64 Boulevard Risso, Nice, France, on the first floor, facing the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain.
For twenty years, proprietor Christian Depardieu has worked in the international art world with a focus on contemporary art. Powerful forces in the world today render cultures more homogeneous while artists seek to cultivate and affirm their differences. At the same time, artistic communities remain aloof from one another due to poor communication. The gallery project facilitates international artistic encounters in Nice, a cosmopolitan city, in which history, geography, and culture have been a fertile soil for art, from modern masters of the the 20th century to the most contemporary vanguard.
The gallery present five or six exhibitions each year with an eclectic choice of artists working in diverse media, including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation work.
